What is redberry plant?

Redberry is a deciduous shrub that belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is also called the highbush cranberry, due to its likeness in appearance to cranberries, which are found growing in low-lying boggy areas. Redberry is native to North America and thrives in moist, well-drained soils found in forested areas and along stream banks. It can grow between 3 to 13 feet tall and has a spreading habit. Redberry produces flattened, white flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer, followed by bright red berries that ripen in fall. The berries are edible, but are more commonly used as a natural food dye or for making jams, jellies, and sauces. The plant is also valued for its ornamental value, with its bright red berries adding color to gardens and landscapes during fall and winter.
